10 Tips For Dealing With Airport Security

By: Auckland Semper Jr

Heightened security measures and long claim lines can make traveling by airplane a challenging task. This article discusses 10 things to remember when traveling by airplane to make the journey easier.

Plan ahead when it comes to packing. To date, only a very small amount of liquids, creams or gels are allowed when packed correctly - in a clear container in one quart-sized clear baggie. Anything that doesn't fit this bill should be packed in your check-on luggage or left out completely and replaced once you reach your arrival destination.

Checked in luggage still must conform to a weight limit of 50 pounds or less. To avoid a long delay at the claims line, weigh your bags ahead of time. Take as much as you can in your carry-on bag.

Get to the airport early. A visit to the airport's website can keep you informed about potential schedule changes. Usually it's advisable to get to the airport at least two before your departure.

Update your identification. Certain trips require certain Ids. Brush up on requirements and obtain the proper identification well in advance if you need to.

Wear comfortable - and easily removable - shoes. Nearly every security checkpoint will require that you take off your shoes. Avoid a hassle by investing in a comfortable pair of slip-ons.

Quench your thirst ahead of time. You won't be allowed to bring any beverages on the plane, including those purchased after the security checkpoint, so make sure you drink down before its time to get on the plane.

If you find the long wait unbearable, you can only imagine what it is like for a small child. Ease their pain by carrying along some entertaining activities for them to play with.

Do as you're told. Airline personnel work hard to ensure every passenger a secure journey. Follow the directions they give you and resist the urge to complain or argue.

People who travel by flying are permitted to carry-on certain filled prescriptions as well as baby formula and food as long as it is accompanied by an authentically signed document from a doctor.

Stay positive. Even with the fear of terrorism and the heightened security concerns you are sure to notice at the airport. Remember that life is meant to be lived, and enjoyed.
