A Caribbean Getaway By Boat

By: Ken Morris

If you imagine the perfect vacation, it likely has you enjoying a tropical beach. You would be lounging on a comfortable chair, watching the waves come up on the sand and then fade away again. If you want to be active there are a number of activities from going out on a boat, playing volleyball to scuba diving you can take part in. Or you can just lounge, and have someone bring you a tropical cocktail as you watch the day pass you by. After a while you go back to the cruise ship that is waiting for you, so it can ferry you off to the next of the luxurious Caribbean cities you will get to see on your trip. While the ship does the work of moving you from this to the next of the great Caribbean cities you will be visiting, you can enjoy great food, drink, and entertainment activities onboard.

It doesn’t get any better than this. You don’t have to deal with any travel hassles or other problems, you just get to hop on the ship and let them do all the work while you enjoy a life of luxury being pampered day in and day out. While it may seem only the stars could enjoy such a trip, this is actually a quite common cruise experience for those who take a little time off to enjoy the tropics. If you do a little research, you will see there are a number of cruise lines that offer itineraries all across the Caribbean. The tough part of the decision you will have to make is that you will have to decide which cities you want to visit.

While it would be nice to have your boat able to take you to all the islands in the Caribbean, that is a tall order, so you are going to have to pick which islands you really want to see. For the most part, the Caribbean is split into three sections when it comes to cruises. Eastern Caribbean cruises cover islands like the U.S. and some of the British Virgin Islands, the Bahamas, Barbados and Antigua. Often these cruises are based out of Puerto Rico so as soon as you set sail you are closer to some of those destinations. A Western Caribbean cruise will take you to locations such as Jamaica, Mexico, and Haiti, while a Southern Caribbean cruise would let you travel to areas such as the British Virgin Islands, Aruba and Curacao.

Once you figure out where you want to go, you need to sort out when you want to set sail. If you are looking for a deal on a cruise, there are some times of year that will offer you a lower price. While summer and hurricane season may be a little hot for a Caribbean cruise, there are great deals to be had. If you instead are looking for the perfect cruising time, you should look to sail between January and May. Just be careful if you are booking in March and April as you may find your ship full of partying spring breakers.
