How to relax – a guide to spa breaks

By: Jay Smith

The workplace is becoming an ever more exhausting place. It's a well known that for most of us working hours are on the increase and that leisure time seems to have become increasingly elusive. With the advent of mobile technology it's even become difficult to escape work after you've finished for the day. All this means that when they do manage to extricate themselves from their daily commitments and enjoy a bit of a break, relaxation and an opportunity to replenish the batteries have become priorities for the stressed modern worker. The idea of a spa-based holiday and the chance to luxuriate in a bit of pampering is understandably proving increasingly popular.

Let yourself enjoy a rare chance to have someone else look after you, where indulgence is the key word; you'll emerge feeling recharged and invigorated. A holiday should be a genuine break from the daily grind. Perhaps it's time to think about holidaying at a spa resort. The aim, ultimately, is to emerge replenished and reinvigorated and there are a multitude of treatments that should get you well on the way. Here's a brief guide to some of the delights that could await you:

• Facial treatments – Everyday life can subject the skin on your face to a bit of a battering, denying it the opportunity to regenerate and leaving you looking worn and unhealthy. Your face will feel better than it has for hears with improved elasticity and a fresh youthful complexion; facial treatments can also be a blissfully relaxing experience. Good news all-round! Reduce the effects of aging and bring back that long forgotten luminosity with a wide range of treatments including collagen to re-hydrate your skin, hot stones to boost circulation and aid cell rejuvenation and cleansing herbal treatments to moisturise and exfoliate.

• Body treatments – Let your body enjoy the complete indulgence of some of the many luxurious body treatments. Any number of scrubs wraps and polishes are available in most spas these days to leave your body feeling relieved, invigorated and renewed as well as looking and feeling better than ever. Return to working life feeling content and rejuvenated having treated yourself to a indulgent range of therapeutic baths and massages.

• Treatments for hands and feet – There's something uniquely relaxing about having your hands and feet pampered. So quite apart from helping to deal with those unsightly blemishes that can accumulate every day, hand and foot treatments can be a particularly therapeutic, soothing experience. Most spas will offer a broad selection of treatments ranging from ancient reflexology techniques to luxurious pedicures and manicures.

All in all a break at a spa resort is a thoroughly modern type of holiday, acknowledging the increased bustle and stress of contemporary life and offering a fleeting bubble of rejuvenating indulgence to escape to.
