Idaho: The Outdoor Haven

By: Sonia Carstens

Very frequently we come across commercials on television that claim that a particular state has the best to offer to the visitors and that it has everything under the sun from gorgeous scenery to a plethora of activities. These adverts promise a whole lot to the visitors of the state and the states also offer marketing packets that try to convince people that their state is the best choice to consider visiting.

But we all know that advertising is not always true. We don’t take them on their face value. We know that though the places they advertise may be there but the picture they present is often exaggerated. Almost all states boast of having plenty of outdoor activities but you must take these claims with a pinch of salt.

Unlike most places, Idaho is the real deal. It is not trying to bill itself as the theme park capital of the world or some gambling mecca where you can either leave rich or catch the bus home. Idaho is just a beautiful place in the world that has only its natural wonders to attract visitors.

With 2.6 million acres of land and water to explore in the Boise National Forest, the place has the largest protected refuge in its kitty. It is not a surprise to know that Idaho is the state that has most wildlife acres under federal protection amongst all the states of the country.

Idaho National Forest is the next largest protected refuge. It combines together three national parks namely, Coeur d'Alene, Kaniksu, and the St. Joe National Forests. It is quaintly located in the northern part of Idaho. With a wide array of activities, it is a hot favorite of people who love outdoor activities.

The Idaho National Forest is home to some of the most ruggedly beautiful mountains in all of the Rockies. Four different mountain ranges can be found here, including: Selkirk, Cabinet, Coeur d-Alene, and the Bitterroot mountains. Rock climbers from the world over love to come here and test their skills against the foreboding mountains as they are considered difficult because it is very hard to find accessible paths up the sides of the mountains due to their rugged nature.

Idaho is the home to mule deer, Rocky Mountain Elk, and other big game animals. So this place has been favorite with a number of hunters and fishermen. Hunters flock Idaho in large numbers during the hunting season. All aim for the hunting trophy. The fishing enthusiasts get the charm of catching salmon and steelhead.

Idaho does not offer the tourist attractions that some other states offer in their advertisement but it is a great place to spend some good time in peace and tranquility with friends and family. It is an experience not to be forgotten in a lifetime. Its mountains, rivers, lakes, and streams wait to welcome you to a place you were meant to live, or at least visit once in your life. Idaho is the place for you if you love to be part of the excitement thrown by pristine landscape and rugged mountainous beauty.
