Murcia Airport information and car hire

By: RussellMarsh

Murcia has an airport of it's own, It's quite small but it has all most people need. Murcia airport caters for international flights and offers all facilities such as regional transport and car hire.

More Precisely it's called Murcia airport, despite the fact that it lies approximately 35 miles outside of the city near a small town called San Javier. It is perfectly located for the Costa Calida area and the southern Costa Blanca, as it lies just in between three major cities: Murcia, Cartagena and Torrevieja. Also very handy for the LaManga area, it also attracts thousands of tourists and residents every year.

Situated right in the triangle of Cartagena, Torrevieja and Murcia Murcia airport is perfectly located for Mar Menor and La Manga visitors. With the growing interest, especially into the area around La Manga and Polaris World, the airport has become more and more popular amongst cut price airlines. However, it is still a very small airport compared to the one at Alicante.

If you are heading for the southern Costa Blanca or Costa Calida area, especially Polaris World visitors, the airport of Murcia San Javier would be the ideal place to book for. As not too many Murcia flights are available you might consider Alicante airport which has many more international flights especially during the summer months. Whatever you decide to do, make sure you arrange your airport transport or rent a car at Murcia airport if you want to exploit the beautiful area and enjoy the beautiful Murcia weather around Mar Menor and La Manga.3Unfortunately road connections to and from Murcia Airport are not what they could be. Public transport is not the greatest in Murcia. With only 3 daily direct bus connections to downtown Murcia City (via the latbus company) and having no train station at Murcia Airport (the closest train station is about 10 km away) public transport is very hard to find.3

As a business traveler heading for Murcia city you can try to take the bus (if you are lucky and it runs around your arrival time), but as a tourist heading for any of the beautiful towns around the area there are not many options left. Depending on what your holiday plans, a car hire or a straightforward taxi might be for you. If you are planning a "sun and sightseeing" vacation you really might consider renting a car at the airport.

Because of the limitations of Murcia Airport, a consortium decided to build a new airport in Corvera, Murcia. A sleepy town, Corvera is perched on the southern slopes of Sierra de Carrascoy mountains and is only a quick ride from the city of Murcia. This is really going to open up Murcia to the cheap flight operators

Corvera Airport is intended to serve a comprehensive range of UK and European low-cost airlines. The town is rapidly expanding with new facilities and properties being developed, some of which are prestigious golf courses and country clubs. Corvera has beautiful almond and melon groves as well as fantastic views. Plus, the renowned La Murta Observatory is handy for a visit. With the County's excellent climate and clear skies, it is predicted that more and more people will come here to holiday and live in the near future, which is why the new airport opening in 2008 will become the perfect travelling option for travellers who would like to visit.
