Whether you are athletic or interested in culture, Newport has something to offer each visitor and resident.If you watch such hit TV shows like "The O.C." and MTV's "Newport Harbor: The Real Orange Country," you may be very familiar with Newport Beach. Located in Orange County, California, Newport Beach is one of the hippest body-surfing and swimming spots in southern California.

The Balboa Peninsula is a famous spot for body surfing because the waves are intense and intimidating. As a matter of fact, the waves can equal the ones from places like Australia and Hawaii. The waves are huge because of the improvements that were made to the rock jetties in the 1930s and definitely give surfers the thrill they crave with the right direction and swell.Though it may seem fun, there should always be safety precautions and only experienced surfers and even swimmers should attempt to conquer them. The Peninsula also offers more than just great waves.

The Balboa Fun Zone is an amusement park that features fun rides, arcades, shops, and restaurants. Kids of all ages can have lots of fun in this area. The Balboa Pavilion is the most famous landmark of Newport Beach. This recreational facility features fishing spots, gaming arcades, and restaurants for the whole family.

Another recreational facility available in Newport is the Newport Aquatic Center. They offer activities like canoeing, kayaking, rowing, and outrigger canoe competitions. Olympic water sport athletes come to Newport to train at the center.

For shopping, Fashion Island is the best place to go.
