You Should Consider Skipping Breckenridge Colorado Ski Resort

By: Jim Mandl

Whenever traveling to a Colorado Ski Resort, I always begin with a trip to Brekenridge! From the majesty of the mountains, to the sleepy little town at the bottom of the slopes; the scene is wonderful. Once there, you know you will always return to ski in Breckenridge. Plan what you will, you will enjoy your ski vacation in Colorado.

Let discuss the experience of Breckenridge. Every trip there I have been part of a large group of friends. After our trip from the airport in Denver, through the mountains along I-70, enjoying the ride, laughing and taking in the scenery along the snow covered roads, we make make our way to our ski resort. We are in Colorado Ski country, what's not to love? After arriving, we locate our ski resort in town, check in and find our rooms. After phone tag (thank the universe for cell phones), we decide to meet at the entrance to go out for some food... continuing our vacation. And this is one of the times it hit me; more later.

After gathering at the front entrance, we take what seems like forever to get moving, but we make our way down Main Street to get some food. We eat at the local brewery, and our ski trip off and running. After a great meal, we head back to our ski resort, discuss times to head out to the ski in the morning and separate to our rooms. And again it hits me.

The next three days of skiing in Breckenridge is perfect. The sun was out most of the time. We had great weather and the slopes were perfect. We ski all day every day, meeting for dinner and nightlife each night. The vacation was awesome, with the exception of the duh moment; now explained... we are only together part of the time.

The thoughts had been hitting me all week. We are staying in the ski lodge. Sure, it is a beautiful resort, but we are all separating each night. What we should have done was rented a condo in Breckenridge (or even a Breckenridge home). It plain as day and when I explaing it to everyone in my group, they agreed. A Condo rental would be perfect. It would be the best of everything in one place.

So, on the last night of our trip (we went back to the Breckenridge Brew for more local brews), I brought up renting a condo on our next ski trip and we unanimously decided that is what we would do. Hopefully, this gets to you in time, before you book your Colorado ski vacation, so you can consider whether you want the isolation that comes with the resort world, or the added experience that can be had together when sharing your ski time and your personal time by renting a condo or home for your next ski vacation.
